Ajanta Watch

I am Dr Shrikant B.Dabhade. Retired as Professor in 1993. My specialization is in Oils and Paints. Colour, Paints, have been my passion since as a child.I visited ajanta as a student in 1955. Later after retirment i visited again in 1999. I have liking for painting, photography, art history, music etc. While as a Chemical Technology student I had written two articles on "Technique of Wall Painting in Ancient India", later my father 1972 included this material as Appendix in his book AKSHARSHODH inMarathi. My father Balkrishna Martand Dabhade, was art critic, archeologist, artist, and profilic writer on Art in Marathi and so in 1973 this was published in a book form. When after retirement I visited Ajanta, I had experience of teaching post graduate classes for aesthetics, art history, photography, contemporaray art in India in Nagpur University as contributory teacher. I have passion for reading about Ajanta so I had visited Ajanta many times, photographed caves, paintings and the site. The result was the exhibition of my photographs in Prine of Wales Museum, Mumbai while a seminar on Buddhist Caves organised by Dr M.N.Deshpande was eing held simultaneously. Dr Deshpande was my father's friend and both had worked under Director General ASI , Mortimer Wheeler at Harappa Excavations in 1945. Thus started my journey for collecting facts about Ajanta and sharing them with my friends. That is why this AJANTA WATCH. I would like to give opportunity to others specialist, Ajantalogists, Indian Art History students to discuss freely and put their views too.
